The Benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Anti-Aging | Telomere Lengthening

Aging Process

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber, increasing oxygen delivery to tissues. Emerging research, particularly a 2020 prospective trial on healthy adults aged 64+, suggests it may mitigate aging at the cellular level through specific protocols (e.g., 60 sessions over 90 days at 2 ATA with intermittent air breaks).

Musculoskeletal

Musculoskeletal

For patients healing from injuries, surgeries, or chronic musculoskeletal conditions, HBOT enhances oxygen delivery to muscles, joints, bones, and connective tissue. This can speed recovery from fractures, sprains, ligament tears, and post-operative procedures, while reducing pain and stiffness.

Wellness & Longevity

Wellness & Longevity

HBOT is a powerful tool for proactive health maintenance. By increasing cellular oxygenation, it supports energy production, mental clarity, healthy skin, and vitality. Many use it as part of an overall wellness plan to promote healthy aging and sustain peak performance.

Immune System

Immune System

Enhanced oxygen levels help your immune system work more efficiently. HBOT supports the body’s ability to fight infections, recover from illness, and maintain resilience—especially beneficial for individuals with chronic conditions or those seeking stronger immunity.

Enhanced Healing & Recovery

Enhanced Healing & Recovery

Whether recovering from surgery, a sports injury, or a slow-healing wound, HBOT accelerates tissue repair by boosting collagen production, promoting new blood vessel growth, and reducing healing times. This makes it a valuable complement to medical and rehabilitative care.

Neurological

Neurological

The brain is highly oxygen-dependent. HBOT can aid recovery after concussions, strokes, or other neurological conditions by improving oxygen flow to brain tissue, supporting cognitive function, and reducing brain fog—helping patients regain mental clarity and focus.

Cardiovascular

Cardiovascular

For individuals with circulation concerns or cardiovascular conditions, HBOT encourages the growth of new blood vessels and improves oxygen delivery to heart and vascular tissues. This can enhance endurance, reduce fatigue, and support recovery from vascular issues.

Reduced Inflammation

Reduced Inflammation

Inflammation is a root cause of many chronic health problems. HBOT’s increased oxygen saturation helps reduce swelling and irritation in tissues, easing discomfort in arthritis, autoimmune conditions, and injury recovery while improving mobility and comfort.

Cellular Function

Cellular Function

At the cellular level, HBOT boosts mitochondrial energy production, mobilizes stem cells for tissue repair, and supports DNA repair processes. The result is improved cell performance, faster regeneration, and better overall organ function.

Conditions

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) currently recognizes hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) for 14 medical conditions, many of which are typically covered by insurance. HBOT may also offer potential benefits for additional conditions that have not yet received FDA approval. Many of these applications are supported by ongoing research and are widely treated with HBOT in clinics around the world.

Treatment for non–FDA-approved conditions is generally not covered by insurance and is often unavailable at hospital-based hyperbaric centers. As an independent clinic, HMS has the flexibility to care for patients whose physicians determine may benefit from HBOT. When insurance coverage is not available, we offer multiple payment options and financial assistance programs to help make care accessible.

A list of FDA-approved conditions, along with select non–FDA-approved indications, is provided below.
